An album was never meant to simply be uploaded to the web, the cover, just like a book cover, was as important. It’s the first thing that catches you eye and makes you want to listen to its soundtrack! It was a visual which then led into the audio stimulus… You could spend hours rummaging through songs and artists on streaming platforms and still not discover or even remember half of the music that you love. So Record stores still play an essential part in the experience of hearing music. Jazzymas has a wonderful collection on offer to anyone who wishes to go and relive that amazing feeling of album hunting! Some occasional events and exhibitions also take place there, so make sure to stay tuned and check it out!

4Faraday – Chueca
If you want to flick through vinyls and have the chance to listen to them while enjoying a cup of coffee of a drink, then Faraday might just become your new go-to place. More than just a place for a caffeine top-up, this is somewhere you can let your mind wonder through decades of musical genres and seek that special feeling you would get roaming through endless album covers, and getting the chance to play it on the spot. From 60’s jazz, to 70’s rock, 80’s synth pop and even more recent releases, faraday lets you choose the soundtrack to your afternoon coffee break.
3Cuervo – Malasaña
Cuervo isn’t just the music. It’s the whole rock’n’roll attitude that makes this place special. The second you walk in, you feel like you’ve transported to a shop in New York in the 70’s. The vinyls are displayed on the wall, amongst some great jackets and clothes. You might come here for clothes, but end up leaving with a vinyl, or even coming for the music and leaving with clothes. It has that effect on you. The lovely staff also make you want to stay there and jam for a while. It’s been one of our favourite places for a few years now, and every year they get even better.
2Radio City – Malasaña
It’s a shame that the magic feeling of going out to buy a record is no longer something shared amongst all ages. But you simply can’t compare hearing a record for the first time, researching it, and going to purchase it, and then listening to the whole album over and over, staring at the cover and reading the inside booklets. Nowadays people listen to hundreds of artists but don’t even know their name. Working with independent labels, you can find special editions, new releases, re-issues and second hand vinyls. From Stiff Records, to Johnny Otis, Flying Nun Records to the Memphis Boys, this is an experience you won’t forget. And you don’t have to be a connoisseur as you’ll be in good hands, with an owner who can guide you to that special record that you will cherish for years to come.
